Tarahumara Man

A smiling Tarahumara, or more accurately, Rarapuri man

A smiling Tarahumara, or more accurately, Raramuri man. Inspired by a photograph by David Ducoin

I battled with impatience to keep my crosshatching neat and tidy. I may have lost that war, but won a few skirmishes here and there.

And yes, I have become totally obsessed with the Raramuri thanks to the excellent book, Born To Run. Now my resume looks something like:

Portrait Artist
Art Teacher
Plumber (not certified, no job too small, a lot of jobs too big)
and now, Barefoot Running Consultant. I’ll do that for free.

If you need any of these services, drop me a line.

Finished Dad/Mystery Baseball Boy

UPDATE: It’s my uncle Victor. Kids. Can’t live with ‘em, can’t tell ‘em apart.

All done:

The thing is, dad isn’t sure it’s him. There’s no date on the old photo proof I used as a model; does the name Ted Black ring a bell? He was the photographer.

Moleskine Exchange

Since I passed out a few business cards last evening, I figure I should get back to posting more frequently. A little ketchup, if you will.

Here’s my first portrait for the portrait moleskine exchage group I’m in. It features Rob with a chicken hat, me with a crow flying over my head, and a Fuji-esque mountain. Let’s say the absurd-ness is intentional.

The business on the left is part of Rob’s beautiful pen work.

Mrs. InkyDisaster, a former teacher herself, has a few nice things to say about me and my teaching “methods (to use the term loosely)” on her blog.

Also, thanks Art Alliance for letting me push my wares at their table for GSO’s “Last Friday” art block party. Had a great time!

UPDATE: Almost forgot – here’s the picture of InkyDisaster Sr. I was working on during the event:

Hmmm... should I put a Yankees logo on this Red Sox fan?

Not quite done yet.
