H.L. Mencken

For Illustration Friday, the topic being “wise.” So, some Mencken quotes:
“The older I grow the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom.”
“Platitude: an idea (a) that is admitted to be true by everyone, and (b) that is not true.”
And my favorite (tonight, anyway):
“We are here and it is now. Further than that all human knowledge is moonshine.”

Excellent portraits…you are very skilled. And, I happened to buy the book you recommended today by chance and came home to read your comment. I have heard good things about it, and think I read it when I was a kid because my dad had it. Betty Edwards also has a book called Drawing on the Artist Within which is very good as well. But, great work on your portraits.

great portrait! Your Mencken has the right expression of somebody who have just said something attractive but ambivalent that probably requires more wisdom than we thought before to be fully appreciated and undestood!
